The 2022 Mesa Meltdown turned out to be the Mesa Blowdown instead with gusty winds throughout. The temperature was nice, however, and the times were still fast. The 20K was a two loop course. Dave Aschwanden and Shawn Scholl were working together in the lead when they came through the 10K mark. Not far back Ella DeWolf and David Rasmussen came through working together also. Dave snuck away from Shawn in the second loop for the win while David eased in just ahead of Ella but Ella was still the first place woman by a healthy gap. There was good competition and solid performances throughout the field.
The 5K was ruled by the younger set with Paul Kimpling and Sadie Silcox (13!) coming in first and second. The race winners for both distances took home cash prizes and everyone got something from the prize table thanks to Loki Outerwear, REI, Peach Street Distillery, Palisade Brewing Co and Slice of Life Bakery. Thanks to these sponsors and especially thanks to Empowered Energy Systems, the sponsor for this season's full Series. Of course our great volunteers are what really make it happen so bravo to Danielle, Karen, David, Diane, Ernie, Susie, Denise and Christie!
