GMNC restructuring to leap into a sustainable future!
Ever since its inception in 1990, the Grand Mesa Nordic Council has been a volunteer run 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our volunteers will always be integral to the mission and success of the GMNC. We will continue to have a volunteer Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors has decided to hire an Executive Director to help professionally run the organization. This is a reasoned and overdue response to the growth of the organization. The popularity and increased growth of our trail system, an increase in available resources, the complexity of managing this popular West Slope cross-country ski destination, and much needed development and management of GMNC programs, all require more day-to-day management.

We intend to hire a skillful and enthusiastic individual to take on many of the volunteer board’s day-to-day responsibilities. This will allow the volunteer board to support the Executive Director’s efforts, provide oversight, develop and work towards the long-term vision of the GMNC, and most importantly accomplish the GMNC’s mission of promoting fun and safe cross country skiing experiences on Grand Mesa for skiers of all ages and abilities.

This exciting decision was made at the Board’s May Annual Meeting which also included Board and Officer elections. Please welcome Lynea Schultz-Ela and Dan Tille who were elected to be the new Co-Chairs of the Board. We thank them profusely for taking on this position.

Doubly profusely with a string of exclamation points, we thank Joe Ramey for his tenure as President for the past two very busy years, for keeping us organized and moving forward!

GMNC is looking for free covered storage in the Grand Valley area for our 3 snowmobiles. We’re hoping to save some $$ and protect our assets. If you have something available, contact grandmesanordic@gmail.com

Thank you, Prinoth
Prinoth of Grand Junction generously loaned the GMNC a Husky snowcat late in the ski season. We found it to be a versatile, economical, grooming machine.
We used the Husky to do all of our grooming for the last two weeks of our extended season through late April, and to groom our more challenging Summit trail that is normally only snowmobile groomed.

Many of our members were excited to have such nice late-season grooming. The Summit trail has never been as nicely groomed. The Prinoth corduroy was interesting, somewhat asymmetrical with less depth. The Husky used roughly half the fuel to groom the same kilometers.

Many thanks to Prinoth for this opportunity.

The GMNC 2020-2021 ski season is now history. What a fine season it was! Please see some pictures below to remind you and to keep you salivating for next season. There were many highlights:

  • Lots of volunteers did lots of Summer trailwork. (There will be lots more work to do this Summer so stay tuned!)
  • The grooming crew did a magnificent job capturing early season snow to get us all skiing promptly. The crew worked hard throughout the season to provide world-class trails.
  • A record number of ski lessons were given upping the skills for lots of skiers
  • Skiers were able to compete in a 4-race well-attended Series sponsored by LOKI
  • Members stepped up with $$$ in record levels of memberships and donations. Additional funds allowed grooming to continue through April stretching the fun!
  • GMNC hosted PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) for clinics for great national exposure
  • The Skyway snowshoe loop trail was fully marked and appreciated
