Board of DirectorsGrand Mesa Nordic Council is a community-supported, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting fun, safe, cross-country skiing experiences for skiers of all ages and abilities.
Jodi Peterson, a Colorado native, has been skiing for more than 40 years. She’s enjoyed just about every ski technique and type of equipment over the years, but these days, she’s mostly found on classic gear up on the Mesa. She was an instructor for Little Gliders in 2013, served as GMNC secretary from 2013 – 2016, and became secretary again in 2019. Her day job is working as the news director for KVNF community radio. She and her husband live in Paonia and spend as much time as possible exploring the mountains and deserts.
Despite, or maybe because of, being born and raised in the desert of southern New Mexico, Joe longed for the mountains. He moved to the West Slope for love including the love of skiing. Joe has been a GMNC member since 2000 and has served on the Board off and on since 2003. He recently retired from a rewarding weather forecasting career, including sixteen years at the National Weather Service office in Grand Junction.
I am newly retired from a career working in the organic food industry. For me, enjoying retirement means more time skiing the beautiful Grand Mesa and finding other hidden gems in Colorado. It also means more time for family, horses and, not least, giving back to community in which I have thrived. With my passion for snow and nordic skiing, I am very happy to contribute to our GMNC community as a volunteer and board member. I look forward to seeing everyone on top of the Mesa in the mesmerizing pursuit of beauty and exercise in the snow.
Before that he spent the previous 13 years traveling around the United States and Europe for his wife’s career in the US Air Force. He has finally been able to fulfill a longstanding goal of becoming cross-country skier since settling in Colorado. Dan enjoys spending his spare time skiing on the GMNC trails, taking care of his dogs, and riding his bicycle as often as he can.
In 2004 he began informally coaching a few friends for bicycle racing and quickly realized how much he enjoyed helping them improve. Using this experience as a stepping-stone, he launched Fulcrum Coaching in 2006. He is currently in the process of obtaining his Professional Ski Instructors of America certification for cross-country skiing in hopes of expanding his client reach.
Callie West started GMNC’s Adult Programs in 2012 after 25 years of skiing and coaching others in New England, Quebec, France and northern Colorado. She served on the GMNC Board of Directors for 8 years, 3 years as Treasurer.
Callie’s passion is helping skiers to have more fun on skis by learning better technique. She has completed the 54 km Norwegian Birkebeiner race and the 7 day Border to Border (440 km) tour in Finland. Callie is also an avid cyclist, hiker and lap swimmer. She lives, works and plays (and makes wine) in Paonia with her husband John.

I started out on Hickory skis with 3-pin bindings enjoying the back woods trails 40 years ago. Through the years new equipment has made an enormous difference in comfort, efficiency and fun! I enjoy both classic and skate skiing and competing in local and world competitions, and organizing ski tours in Europe.
I have taught in New Hampshire, Wyoming and Colorado. I love getting people on skis and excited about the sport. It’s a sport you can do all your life. Besides skiing, I am an avid cyclist, hiker and I love to camp with my [email protected] teardrop camper.
