Upper Ward Trail is still quite ski-able, at least for a little while! The area got about 6 to 10 inches of fairly dense, wet snow from the last storm on a variable base. Photo taken around Noon on April 21 along Cut-off Trail, between Ward Trail Sign Nos. 16 and 17.
Beautiful ski touring today at Skyway, with about 4-5 inches of new snow on a firm base. However, skis did tend to ice up during the afternoon with the high sun angle and strong sun/shade contrast.
The Ward area was still quite skiable today, April 14, 2018. We observed about 5 inches of new snow from the recent storm, but it's highly variable (0 to 12 inches) due to wind drift. Photo shows our "late season backcountry experience" on lower East Ward Trail.
Best skiing conditions of the season today, following recent snow and grooming last evening. Skating and classic tracks were firm and very fast. With temperatures around freezing and full sun, morning skiing 10AM - noon or so is optimal. Afternoon conditions in shaded...
